A Difference In Ruth ©

By Dr. Akiva G. Belk

This study of mysticism in Hebrew Gematria is dedicated in the loving memory of Mr. Donald Wayne Belk and Mr. Gary Lee Belk, my older brothers, may they rest in peace.

We include the reading of Sefar Roos {Book of Ruth} during the high holiday of Shavuos because it shares the most beautiful story of Ruth converting to Judaism. Sefar Roos shares the tragic story of Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law, and her dire situation. Naomi lost her husband and both sons while living in the land of Moav.

Naomi had two daughters-in-law. Roos {friend / mate} and Awr Pawh {mane / neck}. The Gematria of Roos is 606. The Gematria of Awr Pawh is 355. The difference between 606 and 355 is 251... which is the Gematria of Yoh Mahr {said / will say / shall say}. From the beginning it was known... it was planned that Roos would say the following words.

Roos {friend / mate}
606 = Sav 400 Vav 6 Reish 200

Awr Pawh {mane neck}
355 = Hey 5 Pey 80 Reish 200 Ayin 70

251 = 606 - 355

“And Ruth said, do not urge me to leave you, or not to follow after you: for where you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge: Your people shall be my people, and your G-d shall be my G-d! Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. May Hashem do to me, and more also, if aught but death part you and me.” Ruth 1: 16,17

Essentially this tells the story! Ruth was destined to convert to Judaism and be the grandmother of Dovid HaMelech {David, King of Yisroel}. Awr Pawh was not. The story of Ruth becoming a Jewish convert takes place at the start of the barley harvest {Ruth 1:22}. It continues until the conclusion of the wheat harvest {Ruth 2:23}. It is during this period that the high holiday of Shavuos occurs. Just as the giving of Torah marks the beginning of Am Yisroel so does the conversion of Ruth to Judaism. Shavuos is the traditional yahrzeit of Dovid HaMelech as well as his birthday. It is for this reason that we read Sefar Ruth during Shavuos. It is also the difference between two daughters-in-law. Here we observe the destined Mystical difference between Ruth and Awr Pawh. It was in what Ruth would say and do... it was in what Ruth said and did! There was a difference in Ruth!

Yoh Mahr {said / will say / shall say}

251 =
Reish 200 Mem 40 Aleph 1 Yud 10

This is one reason that Hashem would not permit the destruction of the people of Moav.

Wishing you the best!
