Parshas Ha'azinu
Deuteronomy 32:1-52

Establish Your Hearts With These Words ©

By Dr. Akiva G. Belk

This study of the weekly Gematria parsha is dedicated in the loving memory of Mrs. Rachel Student, may she rest in peace.

The Parsha / Song Ha’azinu concludes with the words See Moo - Li Vahv Chehm Li Chawl - Had Vaw Reem, meaning
“Establish your hearts with these words.”

When one reads parshas Ha’azinu a very definite impression is made. Moshe begins the parshas Ha’azinu invoking the Heavens and the earth to be witnesses of his admonition to Kal Yisroel. Our sages say this admonition to Kal Yisroel was to “guard and to fulfill all the words of the Torah.” In addition, the Heavens and the earth were witnesses to his warning Kal Yisroel to be very careful in observing, every detail of the Covenant with Hashem. If Kal Yisroel were to be found guilty in violating the Covenant with Hashem the Heavens would punish us by withholding rain and produce.

If our sages are correct in their assessment this establishes a principle. The principle is the Heavens and the earth are required to testify. Their testimony is fair. Their witness is not biased. Based upon their testimony, Kal Yisroel may be found guilty of violating the Covenant with Hashem. If Kal Yisroel is found guilty, the Heavens and the earth are required to take action, to mete out punishment . That being the situation, one must wonder when the Heavens and the earth are summoned to witness.

Now returning to the thought which is “Establish your hearts with these words” we must understand that even though Moshe spoke only 614 words in Ha’azinu. Those 614 words are not the only Had Vaw Reem that Moshe was referring to.

After saying, “Establish your hearts with these words” Moshe continues his admonition, “...that I am bringing as witness among you this day. Command your sons to guard and to fulfill [everything from Aleph to Sav] all the words of the Torah, that is to say, all of the letters, words and statements of Torah, [everything].” Deuteronomy 32:46.

Dear readers, this explains Had Vaw Reem as the entire Torah... the full Covenant with Hashem. Now not only does Moshe speak regarding the Covenant but the total sum of Moshe's word equals Beev Rees, meaning “in the Covenant.” So without pun intended, the sum of Moshe's words or to summarize Moshe’s words to Kal Yisroel, ‘[Stay] in the Covenant [with G-d].’ Moshe's last will and testament to Kal Yisroel was, “Establish your hearts with these words that I am bringing as witness among you this day. Command your sons to guard and to fulfill [everything from Aleph to Sav] all the words of the Torah, that is to say, all of the letters, words and statements of Torah, [everything].’ Deuteronomy 32:46.

The Gematria of Beev Rees is 614 which is the total number of Moshe’s last words to Kal Yisroel in parshas Ha’azinu.

Beev Rees {[Stay] in the Covenant}
614 = Sav 400 Yud 10 Reish 200 Bais 2 Bais 2

Wishing you the best!
